Is a volunteer group that works to make our local public thoroughfares safer and more accessible for those cycling, walking and needing to use wheelchairs or other mobility aids.

About Us

WAGAT was formed in 2022, after a period of growing engagement by its original members with local councils and developers, advocating for meaningful active travel outcomes.

What We Do!

A lot of good work has already been done, but we are acutely aware that on the one hand there is very considerable development going on around us and on the other hand we are not seeing the infrastructure we need to see to encourage more car-free journeys. We believe that this focus on individual journeys is very important – token bits of isolated infrastructure are not enough, what is needed is joined-up infrastructure of sufficient quality to enable anyone to safely and conveniently travel from where they live to key places such as shops, the health centre, schools, churches, cafes and the leisure centre without feeling the need to get the car out.

We aim to be as inclusive as possible and we want to facilitate travel by walking, cycling, mobility scooter or wheelchair. Plenty of other places in the UK and further afield have proven than if you provide the right dedicated infrastructure in the right way then active travel often becomes the natural choice.
